Complete Lake Pump Irrigation System Repair in St. Clair Shores, Michigan When a homeowner in St. Clair Shores, Michigan had their seawall raised, it dramatically improved their shoreline—but the construction left their lake-fed irrigation system with extensive damage. Heavy equipment and excavation had damaged the underground wiring, irrigation piping, and valve system, leaving the sprinkler system unable to operate. Hunter HydroTech LLC was called in to diagnose the damage, rebuild the affected components, and restore the system to full operation. Diagnosing the Damage After inspecting the irrigation system, we discovered multiple issues that needed to be addressed before the sprinkler system could operate correctly. The project included damage to: The lake pump electrical wiring Pump relay wiring Irrigation valves Mainline piping Zone piping Sprinkler heads Pump intake and suction line Rather than performing temporary repairs, we developed a plan to restore the entire damaged section for long-term reliability. Installing New Pump Wiring One of the biggest portions of this project involved replacing the electrical wire between the irrigation pump relay and the lake pump. To improve durability and provide additional protection, we excavated approximately 50 feet of trench and installed new commercial-grade outdoor irrigation wire inside conduit. Although direct-burial wire is designed for underground use, installing it inside conduit provides additional protection against future damage and makes future servicing much easier. Once installed, the new wiring was connected to both the relay and the irrigation pump before electrical testing was completed. Repairing the Irrigation System With the electrical system restored, we turned our attention to rebuilding the irrigation system itself. Our repairs included: ✔️ Repairing the damaged pump intake ✔️ Repairing the suction line ✔️ Rebuilding damaged irrigation valves ✔️ Repairing the irrigation mainline ✔️ Repairing damaged sprinkler zone lines ✔️ Replacing damaged sprinkler heads Every repair was pressure-tested before moving on to the next phase of the project. Final System Testing No irrigation repair is complete without thoroughly testing the system. After completing all repairs, we ran every irrigation zone individually to verify: Proper water pressure Valve operation Pump performance Head alignment Spray coverage Leak-free operation By the end of the project, the entire irrigation system was back to operating exactly as intended.
