Stuck Diaphragms, Broken Bleeders, Solenoid Problems, and Debris Inside the Valve

A sprinkler zone that will not shut off may have a mechanical valve failure or an electrical signal that never ends.

Common mechanical causes

  • Stuck diaphragm
  • Broken bleeder
  • Broken or incorrectly positioned solenoid
  • Dirt or debris inside the valve

Electrical causes

If a timer continues sending power when it is supposed to be off, or if more than one zone wire becomes energized, the controller or crossed wiring may be responsible.

Immediate response

Shut off the irrigation water supply if the zone will not stop and the valve cannot be controlled safely.
