Reconnecting Irrigation Lines, Adding New Sprays and Rotors, and Upgrading Older Maxi-Paws to Hunter PGP Ultras

Patio construction frequently changes the path of sprinkler lines and the shape of the lawn that remains after the hardscape is finished. Hunter HydroTech completed a patio-related irrigation revamp in St. Clair Shores, Michigan that required more than reconnecting a single cut pipe.

The project included reconnecting affected irrigation lines, adding new spray heads and rotors, and replacing older Maxi-Paw impact rotors with Hunter PGP Ultras.

Why patio projects disrupt sprinkler coverage

Existing sprinkler systems are laid out around the yard as it existed when the irrigation was installed. A new patio can cover old sprinkler locations, remove sections of lawn, interrupt lateral lines, or create new narrow areas that need different head placement.

Reconnecting affected irrigation lines

The first part of reconstruction is re-establishing dependable water paths to the zones that still serve useful areas of the property. Cut or disconnected irrigation piping must be exposed, identified, and reconnected in a way that fits the new patio footprint.

Adding sprays and rotors around the new layout

Hunter HydroTech added spray heads where shorter-radius coverage was needed and rotors where larger turf areas required longer-distance coverage. Placement was based on the finished landscape rather than the old pre-patio layout.

Upgrading older Maxi-Paws to Hunter PGP Ultras

The system also had older Maxi-Paw impact rotors. Hunter HydroTech upgraded affected heads to Hunter PGP Ultras. When a system is already being reconstructed, modernizing older impact rotors can simplify future maintenance and create a more consistent rotor setup.

Testing after patio-related irrigation work

Final checks include leaks at reconnected lines, correct spray and rotor operation, pressure across the complete zone, coverage around the patio footprint, proper head height and alignment, and complete valve shutoff.
