Why Hunter HydroTech Prefers Fixed Patterns but Uses VAN Nozzles in Irregular Areas

Fixed-pattern and VAN adjustable spray nozzles both have a place in residential irrigation, but they behave differently.

Fixed-pattern nozzles

Fixed nozzles are designed for a specific arc such as half-circle, quarter-circle, strip, center strip, or end strip. Hunter HydroTech prefers fixed patterns when the property shape allows because the flow and watering pattern remain more predictable.

VAN adjustable nozzles

VAN nozzles allow the arc to be opened or closed for irregular shapes. They are useful in flower beds, curved areas, and spaces that do not match a standard fixed pattern.

Why adjustment changes performance

Opening or closing a VAN nozzle changes more than the visible arc. It can change flow, spray density, distribution, and overall efficiency. Adjustable nozzles should be set while the zone is operating and evaluated with nearby heads.
