Hunter HydroTech primarily installs Hunter Industries rotors for residential irrigation systems. Our two most common choices are the Hunter PGP Ultra and Hunter I-20.
Our primary residential rotor
The Hunter PGP Ultra is our main residential rotor. We commonly use it with a 3.0 nozzle for open lawn areas where approximately 30 to 40 feet of throw is appropriate and the zone has enough flow to support roughly 3 gallons per minute per head.
Actual performance depends on pressure, nozzle selection, pipe size, elevation, spacing, and total zone demand.
When we use a Hunter I-20
The Hunter I-20 includes a built-in check valve and may be selected for low heads at the bottom of a hill, long runs where water drains toward the lowest head, commercial properties, longer-throw applications, high-use areas, pump-fed systems, and larger properties.
Product preferences
Hunter Industries is our primary rotor brand. We also use Rain Bird where appropriate. We generally avoid generic big-box rotors and do not install Orbit or Toro products. K-Rain has introduced interesting products, but Hunter remains our main standard.
Where rotors fit best
We normally use rotors for open lawn areas wider than about 15 feet. Spray heads are generally reserved for boulevards, narrow side yards, flower beds, and other smaller spaces.
Hunter HydroTech installation standard
Rotors should be installed on flexible swing assemblies, set level with the finished soil, spaced for head-to-head coverage, adjusted for the property, and tested as part of the complete zone.
