Understanding 050 and 075 Swing Elbows for Residential Spray Heads and Rotors

050 and 075 are common size references used for sprinkler swing elbows. The correct elbow depends primarily on the threaded inlet of the sprinkler head and the underground fitting being used.

What does 050 mean?

A 050 swing elbow is used for a 1/2-inch threaded connection. Hunter HydroTech commonly uses a 050 elbow at a CRE or CRT with a 1/2-inch female threaded outlet.

For a spray head, the full assembly may use a 050 elbow at both ends:

CRE or CRT → 050 → swing pipe → 050 → spray head

What does 075 mean?

A 075 swing elbow is used for a 3/4-inch threaded connection. Many residential rotors have a 3/4-inch threaded inlet, so Hunter HydroTech commonly uses a 075 elbow at the rotor end.

The typical rotor assembly is:

CRE or CRT → 050 → swing pipe → 075 → rotor

Why the assembly can contain both sizes

The underground CRE or CRT may have a 1/2-inch female threaded outlet while the rotor has a 3/4-inch inlet. The flexible swing pipe joins the two elbows, allowing the assembly to transition between the two thread sizes without adding unnecessary rigid adapters.

Do not choose an elbow only by appearance

Check the thread size and pipe compatibility. Forcing the wrong thread can damage the head or fitting. Swing-pipe barbs also differ from poly-pipe barbs, so a fitting that looks close is not automatically correct.

Technician note

Carry both 050 and 075 swing elbows on residential service vehicles. A technician may encounter sprays, rotors, converted head types, old nipples, and mixed repairs during one appointment.
